TBDriver electric driver on the socket of a T-Block ground screw, with the aluminium reaction bar resting on the ground at the edge of a golf course.

How it works · Installation method

Installation with a power driver and reaction bar

The torque of the driver goes into the bar resting on the ground, not into the arms of the person working. No excavator: you can work on lawns, gravel and finished areas without damaging them.

When to use it

With the TBDriver electric driver you can install T-Block ground screws up to the T7 series: as a rule you stop at T6 and go up to T7 only when possible. It is the method for medium-sized jobs, when hand installation is not enough and an excavator would be too invasive or too much.

  • Decks and platforms on grass or gravel
  • Event structures, equestrian centres, sports facilities
  • Signs and road signage
  • Finished areas where a machine would leave marks: gardens, golf courses

What you need

The driver has a 1-1/2" square drive: use the "machine" sockets with the same drive or, with the adapter, the 1" sockets.

The sockets

Matching the size of the T-Block head, given on the model data sheet.

The stabilisers

They keep the socket centred on the head while screwing in. They are being put into production.

For headless T-Block models for a Ø60 post

The temporary hexagon interface slides into the top of the T-Block and takes the 60 mm socket. It comes off when installation is finished.

Step by step

  1. T-Block ground screws laid out on the sand of an arena, each next to the coloured cone that marks its point.
Crew at work with the TBDriver on a gravel area, rotating laser level on its tripod and T-Block ground screws ready on the ground.

Step 1: Mark the points and levels

Mark the points with pegs or coloured cones; a rotating laser level gives the height the heads must reach.

  2. Nine flanged-head T-Block ground screws lined up on the site gravel, ready for installation.
Rotary hammer with a pilot drill bit opening the pilot hole in the ground.

Step 2: Bring the T-Block screws to their points and, if needed, drill a pilot hole

Lay each T-Block next to its point. If the ground is hard or stony, open a pilot hole with the rotary hammer: a small hole, not an excavation.

  3. TBDriver standing upright with the aluminium reaction bar attached and lying on the lawn.
Render of the 60 mm machine socket with a 1-1/2 inch drive.

Step 3: Get the driver ready

Fit the socket that matches the size of the T-Block head, given on the model data sheet (with the adapter, if the socket has a 1" drive), and attach the reaction bar: it is what holds the driver back while it turns. For the headless T-Block models for a Ø60 post, use the temporary hexagon interface, which comes off when installation is finished.

  4. Close-up of the socket engaged on the flanged head of the T-Block, with the reaction bar and the driver cable.
The T-Block ground screw going into the ground under the TBDriver, with operators on either side.

    Step 4: Screw it in

Slide the socket onto the T-Block head, rest the bar on the ground and screw in, keeping the T-Block vertical. The torque goes into the bar, not into the wrists of the operator.

  5. Level held against the shaft of the T-Block, with the TBDriver and the reaction bar above.

Step 5: Check it is plumb

While screwing in and at the end, hold a spirit level or a digital inclinometer against the shaft.

  6. Flanged head of an installed T-Block ground screw at finished level in the gravel.

Step 6: Bring the head to level

The flange must reach the height given by the laser, and be level: that is where the structure will be fixed.

  7. Finished timber platform under a tent roof, built on T-Block ground screws at the edge of a golf course.

    Step 7: Fix the structure

Post feet, beams or frames are fixed on the flanges. There is no concrete to wait for: you build straight away.

Caution

What not to do, what to watch out for

  • While screwing in, the reaction bar must stay on the ground: it is what holds the driver back.
  • Check the plumb while screwing in as well, not only at the end.
