Galvanized steel T-Block ground screws lined up on the sand of a building site, ready to be screwed in.

Screw anchors for soil: T-Block ground anchors

Ground screws for soil are screwed into the ground and carry a structure with no digging and no concrete. Many people call them screw foundations, ground anchors, screw anchors or screw footings: T-Block® has made them in Italy since 2004, from 38 cm anchors for a gazebo to foundations for houses and solar plants.

Screw-in stake or screw anchor?

They look alike, but they do two different jobs.

The screw-in stake

Short and thin, in plastic or light steel. It holds down a tent, a sheet or the guy lines of a light gazebo.

The T-Block screw anchor

Longer and sturdier, in galvanized steel, with a head onto which the structure is fixed. It carries the post and also works in tension: it holds the structure down when the wind lifts it.

Which screw for what

The series changes with the weight of the structure, the wind it catches and the ground.

Gazebos and tents

One anchor under each post, or for the guy lines of fabric gazebos.

Gazebo anchoring

Pergolas and shelters

The post foot is fixed onto the head of the screw, in place of the footing.

Pergola anchoring

Fences and signs

The headless T-Block: it screws into the ground and the post slots into it.

Fencing without concrete

Garden sheds, platforms and decks

A grid of screws under the floor and the base frame on top, set level.

Garden shed foundations

Houses, solar and large structures

The larger series, installed with a power driver or with machines, for high and very high loads.

Ground screws: the guide

The right number and series for your structure are suggested by the configurator, based on dimensions, roof and ground.

Ready-made kits on Amazon

Four screws per kit, for the most common jobs in the garden.

Frequently asked questions

What are ground screws for soil?
They are steel elements with a helix that screw into the ground and carry a structure with no digging and no concrete: gazebos, pergolas, fences, garden sheds, platforms. They are also called screw foundations, screw anchors or screw footings. The foot of the structure is fixed onto the head.
What is the difference between a screw-in ground stake and a screw anchor?
A camping screw-in stake is short and thin, made for tents and fabric sheets. A T-Block screw anchor is longer and sturdier, in galvanized steel, with a head onto which the structure is fixed: it carries the post and also works in tension, so it holds the structure down when the wind lifts it.
How long are they?
It depends on the series. The kits on Amazon have screws of 38, 50 and 75 cm, for gazebos, parasols, pergolas, fences and garden sheds. For heavier structures there are the larger series, chosen according to the load and the ground.
Do you need special tools?
Up to the T6 series they are screwed in by hand, with the socket wrench and T-handle. A small pilot hole is always drilled first, to keep the screw straight: it can be skipped only if the ground is particularly soft. The T3 kit with handle already includes the tool.
What ground can they be screwed into?
Most soils: lawn, earth, sand, gravel. In soft clay, silt or peat, take the model from the next series up. In solid rock a concrete footing remains the best choice.
Can they be removed and reused?
Yes. They are unscrewed anticlockwise with the same wrench used to install them and leave no trace in the ground. Those recovered intact can be reused, even in a different spot.
